Deluxe Speedibin Composter

Our flagship composter, the Deluxe model features a hinged lid for convenient addition of materials. Make rich nutritious compost from your kitchen and yard waste!  This metal backyard compost bin is designed to keep out rats and to be easy to use.

Based on the Classic Speedibin, the lid of the Deluxe model is hinged for easy access.  The support arm allows the lid to be held open at about 75 degrees for a quick addition of scraps or at a second position fully open, making it easy to turn or fork over.

Shipping is by courier using the Freightcom platform. The rate can be calculated when you add an item to the cart and then view the cart. There will be a list of many couriers but from what we have observed, there is no advantage in choosing a more expensive one. To Vancouver Island and the lower mainland, rates are typically $30 to 35. Across Canada, it is more like $45 to 60. To the US, rates are typically $80 to $120. All the panels cleverly fit into the lid for shipping. Shipping weight is 49 lbs (22 kg). 

Dear US customers, Unfortunately a tariff will most likely need to be paid to the courier when recieving your bin. Recent customers have had to pay a 50% duty to UPS before the package was released. We ship Delivered Duty Unpaid (DDU) so you will not be charged up front when you order. However, you will probably need to pay a 50% duty on delivery. Speedibins are CUSMA compliant and made in Canada but they are metal so fall under Section 232, a steel or aluminum "derivative" article.  I have applied for a ruling from Customs and Border Protection but it could be at least a couple of months before the ruling is made. And the ruling may just confirm a 50% tariff. You'll want to decide if that is an acceptible risk before ordering. Best to be prepared! 

Dear International customers, There may be a Value Added Tax (VAT) that will be added to your cost. It may be charged when it is delivered. In the UK, it is an extra 20% of the cost of the bin plus shipping. You'll want to be prepared for this!

The Deluxe Speedibin is ideal for home composting.  If you need a composter for a school or community garden, you could consider the Scholar Speedibin as it is tougher to withstand kids leaping on them.  However they probably won't last as long since the cedar will eventually rot. Scholar Speedibins last about 15 years, as opposed to the all-metal Deluxe and Classic bins which last 25 or 30 years. If you want a bin that is super easy to use, get the Deluxe. If you want a skookum bin that locks, look at the Scholar.
